Learner Evidence

Open Degree publishes the graph. It does not track learners, and it holds no record of what any person has learned. Platforms that walk the graph with learners can publish anonymous aggregates of how those learners did on each outcome. This page shows them, and each outcome page shows its own under "What learners show".

What these numbers are

For each outcome, and for a stated time window:

  • Learners: how many distinct learners worked on the outcome.
  • Passed on the first attempt: of those who took a check, the share who passed the first time.
  • Reached mastery: the share who went on to master it.
  • Median time to mastery: from a learner's first session on the outcome to mastery.
  • Started with: the same numbers split by the resource a learner started with, when that resource alone had enough learners.

The rules they follow

  • Aggregates only. No per-learner rows, no identifiers, and no free text. A number is published only when it describes at least 50 learners. Below that, nothing is shown, not a rounded or suppressed value.
  • Open. Aggregates are published under CC0, so anyone may reuse them.
  • Advisory. They help reviewers decide what to look at: an outcome that few learners pass on the first attempt may really be two concepts. A number never changes an outcome's status, and no adoption decision is made by a number.
  • Refreshed with the site. The numbers are read when the site is built, fromhttps://app.diydegree.org/api/evidence/v1/nodes.json. Publishers produce them weekly.

The rules come from section 10 of the eCollective Knowledge Graph specification that Open Degree conforms to.

Outcomes with aggregates

The report is published and empty: no outcome has yet been worked on by 50 learners, so there is no number anyone may publish. That is the threshold doing its job, not a gap.
